My Green Heart Philosophy
At the core of the My Hotels’ philosophy is our Green Heart; a symbol of love and respect for people, the planet and a commitment to a sustainable future. It focuses our business ethics toward a healthier, kinder future for all life.
How it started
To us there’s more to being green than simply lip service. It is a feeling, one that must come from the heart. Our Green Heart is a movement that was inspired by seeing the waste and carbon footprint that travel can create. Founder Andreas Thrasyvoulou felt so strongly about this that he bought his learnings back from his travels to create something very dear to him and us. Andreas understood that being environmentally sustainable is a journey, which will never really be complete, so he moved to encourage the hotels to think more sustainably.
Green Heart in Action
Across all My Hotels, our Green Heart philosophy is not just words, but actions. We’re proud of the steps we take every day to demonstrate our commitment to this guiding philosophy. We also select partners who support our vision and can further enhance our positive impact on the environment.
Partnership with Friends of the Earth
We are in partnership with Friends Of The Earth to help us guide us on this path and develop future initiatives.
Great Heart encourages in-room recycling by providing separate rubbish containers for guests. This ensures as little as possible ends up in landfill sites.
In addition, at My Brighton we work with bin collection company The Recycling Partnership, that operates a ‘zero to landfill’ policy. For My Bloomsbury, we work with First Mile who also subscribes to a ‘zero to landfill’ policy and are also carbon-neutral.
As well as in-room recycling, we provide guests with literature on the benefits of reducing tap time and re-using towels. This initiative saves the unnecessary laundering of clean towels and reduces water and energy consumption.
Non-Toxic Cleaning Products
My Hotels are committed to using non-toxic cleaning products and use Hepburn chemicals in all hotels. Hepburn is the world leader in delivering sustainable environmental solutions to the hospitality industry.
We also installed Air One ozone machines at My Bloomsbury and My Brighton which kills bacteria purifies the air.
Saving the Bees
At My Chelsea, we keep eight beehives on the roof. This is in part to bring awareness about the importance and current plight of the honeybee and also to help sustain the eco-system in whatever small way we can. Our beehives are cared for by Micklemus of Blackman Bee Farms.
We work with Green Taxi at My Bloomsbury and promote their use to guests.
We use energy saving lightbulbs in all our hotels. Going further still, at My Brighton we have solar panels on the roof too.
We have always used eco-friendly toiletries and also provide bamboo toothbrushes for guests’ use on request.
Each year a team from My Hotels Group gets involved with the Clean the Beach weekend in Brighton. The hotels also organise regular engagement events for the staff locally within their neighbourhoods to support environmental causes.
We supply Life Water in all our hotels for guest’s use. Every bottle of Life Water used funds clean water projects across the globe.
